General Dermatology

General dermatology is a medical specialty that treats diseases of the skin, hair and nails.  Dermatologists treat the gamut of diseases including those that are relatively innocuous such as warts, nail fungus, rosacea and acne or more complex such as skin cancers like malignant melanoma and cutaneous T-cell lymphoma which can be very serious and life threatening.

General dermatology is practiced by a medical doctor who, after finishing medical school, continues with additional specialized residency training in dermatology.   Once residency has been completed, dermatologists may choose to subspecialize in surgery, dermatopathology or cosmetics.
