Meet Asfa Akhtar, DO, FAAD
Dr. Asfa Akhtar is a board-certified dermatologist and Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, with over 15 years of experience in the field. She is a compassionate, dedicated, and highly skilled physician known for her expertise in both general and cosmetic dermatology. Her clinical interests include general dermatology, cosmetic dermatology, dermoscopy, hair loss, cutaneous surgery, skin of color, laser treatments, and facial rejuvenation.
Dr. Akhtar graduated magna cum laude from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) with honors in biological research. During her time at UAB, she excelled academically and in research, earning recognition in Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges and induction into several honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa and the Golden Key International Honour Society.
She earned her medical degree with honors from Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Akhtar completed a residency in family medicine at Palmetto General Hospital and became board-certified in Family Practice. She then pursued a second residency in dermatology at Broward General Medical Center, where she was honored with both the Best Resident Award and the Intendis Mentoring Award.
After residency, Dr. Akhtar joined Cleveland Clinic Florida, where she quickly distinguished herself as a leader in dermatology and served as a staff dermatologist until her departure from academic medicine in 2024. She has held local leadership positions, including serving as President of the Broward County Dermatologic Society.
Dr. Akhtar is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Dermatology, Women’s Dermatologic Society, American Osteopathic College of Dermatology, and the Florida Academy of Dermatology. She has contributed to numerous peer-reviewed dermatology publications and is frequently invited to speak at national and international conferences. Her work has earned her multiple accolades throughout her career.
She has also served as faculty at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University, and Case Western Reserve University, and continues to train dermatology and internal medicine residents. Her commitment to mentoring has been recognized with awards such as the Mentor Award from the Women’s Physician Staff Association at Cleveland Clinic and the Mentor of the Year Award from the Broward General Dermatology Residency Program.
Outside of her professional commitments, Dr. Akhtar enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is also fluent in Hindi and Urdu.
