Robb E. Wilentz, MD

Robb E. Wilentz, M.D., is a Board Certified anatomic pathologist and Board Certified dermatopathologist. He is the director of the pathology laboratory at Skin and Cancer Associates. This laboratory processes approximately 70,000 biopsies and excisions each year and performs a range of services, including routine and special staining, immunohistochemical studies, and second-opinion consultation. To interpret pathologic specimens, Dr. Wilentz works closely with Dr. Daniel Rivlin, who is an expert dermatopathologist, Moh’s and cosmetic surgeon, and dermatologist.

Dr. Wilentz graduated with a B.A. in Biochemical Sciences from Harvard University in 1992, and he received his medical degree from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1996. He performed his internship and residency in Anatomic Pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Robb also completed fellowships in surgical and gastrointestinal/pancreatic pathology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and he served as Chief Resident in the Department of Pathology. Robb was an Assistant Professor of Pathology at The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 2002, Robb left Baltimore to pursue a fellowship in Dermatopathology in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He subsequently joined Skin and Cancer Associates in July, 2003.

Dr. Wilentz has had a prolific academic career, working in colonic, pancreatic, and dermatopathology; he has published over 60 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. These writings have appeared in preeminent journals and textbooks, including Cancer, the American Journal of Pathology, and Robbins’ Pathologic Basis of Disease. Robb has played a significant role in understanding several pancreatic tumors and “pre-cancers,” which may lead to new ways to detect pancreatic cancer earlier and thus treat patients better.

Robb is a member of many societies, including the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology, the College of American Pathologists, the Gastrointestinal Pathology Society, the American Academy of Dermatology, and the American Society of Dermatopathology. Robb serves on a scientific abstract review panel for the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. In addition, Robb has won several pathology research awards, has lectured at multiple universities, has served as a moderator and member on several pathology and university panels, and has taught residents and medical students alike.

Dr. Wilentz is available to interpret pathologic specimens of all kinds, specifically those in his areas of expertise of dermatopathology, gastrointestinal pathology, and pancreatic pathology.
