Eczema is a hereditary disease most common in individuals whose family members have hay fever, asthma, or eczema. It is often referred to as Atopic Dermatitis and causes red, scaly, itchy patches of skin that can appear anywhere on the body.

Eczema is often diagnosed in childhood, but it can appear for the first time in adults. The elbows, behind the knees, and the face are the most common places for the patches to appear. However, it can also affect the scalp, chest, back, and outer legs and arms. Symptoms often lessen with age.
