Pediatric Dermatology
At SCA we understand that children need dermatology care too, and at times kids have unique skin needs that differ from adults! Our group treats common skin conditions in children and adolescents such as warts, eczema, rashes, and acne. We also offer treatments and procedures for complex skin disorders. Whether common or complex, you can be assured that your child will receive world class treatment from any of our dermatologists!
Common conditions treated by our dermatologists include:
- Eczema (Atopic Dermatitis): A chronic skin condition that causes red, itchy patches, commonly seen in children.
- Birthmarks: These include vascular (like hemangiomas) and pigmented (such as moles) birthmarks.
- Acne: Although more common in adolescents, some children may develop acne earlier.
- Psoriasis: A chronic condition that causes thickened, scaly patches of skin.
- Infections: Bacterial, viral, or fungal skin infections, like impetigo, warts, or ringworm.
- Genetic skin disorders: Conditions like epidermolysis bullosa or ichthyosis, which are rare and often inherited.
- Hair and nail disorders: Including alopecia (hair loss) or nail deformities.
- Skin allergies: Contact dermatitis from exposure to allergens, as well as allergic reactions presenting with rashes.
- Diaper Rash: Irritation from prolonged contact with moisture in diapers.
- Vitiligo: A condition causing the loss of skin pigmentation in patches.
- Hives (Urticaria): Raised, itchy welts that result from allergic reactions or other triggers.
Our dermatologists work closely with other pediatric specialists when managing complex conditions and use age-appropriate treatments to ensure effective and safe care for younger patients.
